Adamawa ACReSAL Achieves Remarkable Milestones in Nationwide Project Implementation

In Brief:

  • Adamawa ACReSAL secures top accolades in Nigeria’s project implementation progress for 2023, credited to innovative strategies and robust state government support.
  • Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s unwavering dedication to environmental concerns propelled ACReSAL’s success, enabling the regeneration of degraded reserves and the revitalization of Farming Skills Acquisition Centres.
  • 13 prestigious awards, including Best Project Implementation Progress and Innovations, were garnered by Adamawa ACReSAL and celebrated at a gathering attended by esteemed dignitaries and stakeholders.

The Adamawa State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL) has marked a significant triumph by clinching the top spot in project implementation progress among all participating states in Nigeria for the year.

Acknowledging this commendable feat, the Stakeholders’ Engagement of Federal and State Steering/Technical Committees, hosted at the prestigious Ladi Kwali Hall within the Abuja Continental Hotel, presented awards recognising Adamawa’s exceptional efforts.

Due to its commitment to afforestation initiatives and innovative project execution strategies, which were bolstered by the state government’s resolute support, the state outperformed other participating states in the 2023 project.

Dr. Ibrahim Chinda, the State Project Coordinator, attributed this success to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, emphasising his visionary leadership, unwavering support for the project, and profound concern for environmental issues.

“Adamawa ACReSAL wouldn’t have raked in these awards if our state governor hadn’t given us the kind of support he is giving.

As you know, Governor Fintiri takes the issue of the environment very seriously, and that’s why he has given us support to carry out the activities we are carrying out. If you recall, he gave us permission and support to regenerate the degraded government forest reserves.

He has also been so supportive by keying into our agroforestry drive by ensuring we take over and turn around the Farming Skills Acquisition Centres all across the state. We are optimistic that, with his support, we will always make him proud by doubling our efforts.”

Expressing gratitude, Dr. Chinda extended appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mohammed Sadiq; the Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. David Jatau; and the Commissioner for Water Resources, Audit Ayuba Tanko.

Their instrumental roles in ensuring seamless support from their respective ministries, despite their demanding schedules, contributed significantly to the project’s success.

Adamawa ACReSAL clinched 13 prestigious awards, including accolades for Best Project Implementation Progress, Land Reclamation via Afforestation, Support to Beneficiaries, and Community-Driven Activities.

The project also secured recognition for its innovative approach. Notably, the state ranked among the top three in categories such as transparency and integrity, communications, disbursement, monitoring and evaluation oversight, political will, and staff welfare.

Honourable Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas, Federal Permanent Secretaries, Commissioners from focal ministries in all 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the World Bank team under the direction of ACReSAL Task Team Leader Dr. Joy Iganya Agene, the ACReSAL Federal Project Management Team under the direction of National Project Coordinator Abdulhamid Umar, and various stakeholders graced the 2023 culminating event.

This event served as a fitting capstone to a year full of outstanding accomplishments and group dedication to sustainable development.
