Adamawa Govt Launches Fertilizer Sales with 50% Discount to Aid Farmers
The Adamawa State Government has initiated the sale and distribution of fertilizer to farmers across the state at a 50% discount. The event, which took place on Thursday, marks a significant effort to support local agriculture.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor David Finchuwa Jatau, announced that the state had procured fertilizers worth approximately five hundred million naira.
An additional sixty-five truckloads of farm inputs are expected to arrive soon.
Professor Jatau emphasized that three batches of the consignment will be distributed throughout the state.
He warned against unauthorized sales, stating that violators would face strict consequences. He urged the public to report any illicit market sales of the discounted fertilizer.
The fertilizer, sold at a 50% discount, will cost thirteen thousand naira per bag of NPK 20-10-10. This initiative aims to make agricultural inputs more affordable for farmers.
Dr. Sini Thakma, the Special Assistant to the governor on Agriculture, expressed confidence in the integrity of the distribution plan. He highlighted a strategic approach to ensure that the fertilizer reaches smallholder farmers effectively.
Representatives from the Maize Farmers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the President of NECAS, Alhaji Sadiq Daware, also delivered goodwill messages, supporting the government’s initiative.
In a related event, the inauguration of the Governing Board members for the College of Agriculture Ganye was held at the state Secretariat, Ministry of Agriculture.
Professor Jatau, in his inaugural remarks, urged the board to enhance the college’s status and secure accreditation for its courses.
Board Chairman, Professor Iliyasu Audu, pledged to address the issues of non-accreditation and funding, expressing determination to fulfill their mandate and improve the college’s standing.
