Child safety wristbands: 40,000 Wristbands Distributed for Ploughing 2023

Secure Family Outing: Child Safety Wristbands Ensure Peace of Mind

Child safety wristbands are set to make a return for this year’s National Ploughing Championships, scheduled to take place in Raheniska, Co. Laois from September 19 to 21. These wristbands serve as an important tool to enhance child safety during the event, which draws large crowds.

The concept behind these wristbands is simple yet effective: a contact phone number can be written on the wristband. This precautionary measure becomes invaluable if a child wearing the wristband happens to wander off in the midst of the bustling event.

Around 40,000 of these child safety wristbands will be distributed at all the entrances to the National Ploughing Championships. This collaboration is made possible through the joint efforts of the National Ploughing Association (NPA) and FBD, a notable insurance company.

The significance of this initiative is highlighted by Tomás O’Midheach, the CEO of FBD. He emphasizes how the child safety wristbands have consistently proven their utility over the years by providing a layer of protection for children who might accidentally get separated from their guardians in the midst of this prominent event in the Irish farming calendar.

The National Ploughing Championships is renowned as a fantastic family outing, catering to a diverse range of interests and age groups. The event boasts attractions such as a playground, areas for baby care, a fun fair, pony games, appearances by sports and TV personalities, as well as stalls offering sweets and toys.

It’s important to note that children under the age of 12 can gain free entry to the National Ploughing Championships, provided they are accompanied by an adult. Additionally, any remaining tickets for a given day can be purchased at the gate, either with cash or card payment, according to Anna Marie McHugh, the assistant managing director of the NPA.

The decision to transition to online bookings for tickets was prompted by considerations of health and safety. The NPA made this change following consultations with emergency services and taking into account attendance figures from the previous year. This shift to advanced ticketing reflects a proactive approach to ensure the well-being of all attendees.
