Revolutionary Dangote Refinery Initiates First Phase: 350,000 Barrels Mark Monumental Progress
News Summary:
- Dangote Refinery marks a milestone by preparing to introduce its inaugural refined products to Nigeria’s market, signifying a boost in domestic refining capacity and energy security.
- Acquiring one million barrels of Agbami crude, the refinery commences processing at 350,000 barrels per day, with plans for a total supply of six million barrels.
- The refinery’s strides aim to alleviate Nigeria’s fuel supply challenges and extend benefits to West African countries, promising a pivotal role in regional energy stability.
The Dangote Refinery has reached a pivotal juncture in its journey towards providing Nigeria with its first batch of refined products, marking a significant stride in bolstering the nation’s domestic refining capacity and reinforcing energy security. Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, hailed this achievement as a momentous milestone, emphasising its importance for the country’s progress.
“This is an important achievement for our country as it demonstrates our ability to develop and deliver large capital projects. Our focus over the coming months is to ramp up the refinery to its full capacity. I look forward to the next significant milestone when we deliver the first batch of products to the Nigerian market,” remarked Aliko Dangote.
In a recent statement, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals acquired one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited. Shell is among the most prominent trading entities in Nigeria and globally, handling an extensive trade of over eight million barrels of crude oil daily.
The STASCO cargo, transporting one million barrels from Agbami, docked at Dangote Refinery’s Single Point Mooring, where it was discharged into the refinery’s crude oil tanks.
This initial consignment of one million barrels signifies the commencement of the larger plan to supply Dangote Petroleum Refinery with a total of six million barrels of crude oil, sourced from various suppliers. This supply is intended to sustain the initial processing of 350,000 barrels per day by the facility, constituting the first phase.
Furthering this initiative, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited is set to provide the next four cargoes within the upcoming two to three weeks, while ExxonMobil will supply the final two cargoes, culminating in the six-cargo arrangement.
These supplies are instrumental in initiating the refinery’s operations and commencing the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG before progressing to the production of Premium Motor Spirit.
“This latest development will play a pivotal role in alleviating the fuel supply challenges faced by Nigeria as well as the West African countries,” the company emphasized.
The strides taken by the Dangote Refinery stand as a beacon of hope in tackling the region’s fuel supply concerns, heralding a promising era of increased energy stability and self-sufficiency.
