Who has final say

Name the editor with final authority over what is published. Independence is a person with the power to say no, not a paragraph promising it.

The separation

Commercial staff do not attend editorial planning, do not see stories before publication, and cannot request or prevent coverage. Editorial staff are not set commercial targets.

Grant-funded reporting

Where a grant supports coverage of a subject, the funder chooses the subject area and nothing else. They see the work when readers do. This is stated on every story it applies to.

If independence is compromised

Set out what a journalist should do internally, and what a reader can do externally, if they believe it has been.
