AFCEA STEM Major Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

STEM Major Scholarships

The AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) is an organization that promotes the STEM Major Scholarships education and also provides opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in these fields.

One way that AFCEA contributes to this goal is through its STEM Majors Scholarships for Undergraduate Students program, which offers financial assistance to outstanding students who are pursuing a degree in STEM disciplines.

This scholarship program not only helps alleviate the financial burden for students but also recognizes and rewards their hard work and dedication to the STEM fields.

Stem Major Scholarships Available

Applications open January 1 – May 1, 2024!

  • Cyber Security Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student Member Scholarship ($2,500)
  • Stem Major Scholarship ($2,500)
  • Undergraduate Diversity Scholarship ($3,000)

Please note that there is a single application form for all STEM Major Scholarships. Qualified applicants will be considered for all AFCEA STEM Major scholarship options.

Undergraduate Diversity Scholarship

Applicants for the Undergraduate Diversity Scholarship must fulfill all qualifying conditions for the STEM Majors Scholarship.

Applicants must be women or minority students. Students at HBCUs are urged to apply. Graduate students can apply for the Ralph W. Shrader Graduate Diversity Scholarship.

Eligibility

  • To apply, undergraduate candidates must be full-time sophomores or juniors at a four-year institution or university. Online programs are eligible.
  • At the time of admission, applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above in their current program at a recognized US institution or university.
  • Applicants must be United States citizens or permanent residents.

Students from the following groups are not eligible for STEM Majors scholarships:

  • High school seniors
  • Students attending a community college and intending to attend a four-year institution.
  • Freshmen or seniors at a four-year university.
  • Students at a two-year institution.

Cyber Security Scholarship

Applicants for the Cyber Security Scholarship must meet all eligibility conditions for the STEM Majors Scholarship. In addition, applicants must be in one of the following majors.

  • Digital Forensics
  • Information assurance
  • Information technology
  • Cybersecurity
  • Computer science
  • Electronic engineering
  • Other fields connected to supporting U.S. cyber companies.

Student Member Scholarship

Applicants for the Student Member Scholarship must fulfill all eligibility conditions for the STEM Majors Scholarship. In addition, applicants must have an AFCEA membership, either a student membership or a Junior Enlisted membership.

STEM Major Scholarships Funding

Scholarship awards are dependent on the availability of funds. Scholarship awards are limited to tuition and course-related expenses, such as fees, books, supplies, and equipment, which are required for university courses.

Application Process

In addition to the online application, other required documents are:

Official transcript, contains completed courses and grades, including those from the Fall 2023 semester. Please send an email to edfoundation@afcea.org from your school.

If electronic submission of your transcript is not possible, please mail an official document to the AFCEA address provided below before the cutoff date.

One letter of recommendation from faculty in the major field of study. Request that your references provide a letter of recommendation in pdf format to edfoundation@afcea.org.

Official transcripts documenting all college-level study will be requested by the deadline; electronic submission is encouraged.

If your transcript does not reflect any classes in progress, please supply documents demonstrating current classes.

If electronic submission is not possible, please submit the official document to the AFCEA address indicated above by midnight on the deadline date.

Applicants may additionally submit a third letter of recommendation or résumé.

Completed applications, including all supporting documentation, must be submitted before the deadline.
