He made this statement during the public presentation of former Ogun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba’s memoir, “My Life in the Public Eye,” held in Lagos on Saturday.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the event.
President Tinubu announced a temporary suspension of tariffs on imported grains and essential food items as an immediate measure to address the escalating food prices.
“We are taking steps to alleviate food shortages by temporarily lifting tariffs on imported grains and other food items,” he stated.
He emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians.
Additionally, President Tinubu underscored the importance of achieving long-term food self-sufficiency by boosting local production.
“We remain committed to promoting local production and ensuring that we cultivate and utilize local resources,” he affirmed.
President Tinubu commended Chief Olusegun Osoba for his significant contributions to journalism and politics, highlighting his role in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), which championed the restoration of democracy in Nigeria during the 1990s.
The event, coinciding with Chief Osoba’s upcoming 85th birthday, featured tributes from notable figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun. They praised Chief Osoba’s unwavering dedication to public service and democracy.
