Revolutionary Momentum: NADDC Chief Propels 1000-Kilometer Made-in-Nigeria CNG Vehicle Industry Surge

The National Automotive Design and Development Council’s (NADDC) recently appointed head, Joseph Osanipin, has been a vocal advocate for embracing Nigeria’s indigenous automotive marvels. In a defining moment during his inaugural tour to the heart of innovation at the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) enclave in Nnewi, Anambra State, on November 14, 2023, Osanipin fervently advocated for a shift towards supporting indigenous vehicle production.

Osanipin’s fervor resonated as he marveled at the ingenuity exhibited by Innoson, particularly lauding a remarkable Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle boasting an extraordinary range exceeding 1,000 kilometres on a singularly brimful cylinder.

From what I have seen here today, I think I have a better understanding of what IVM is doing in terms of quality and quantity. These are eye-openers for us. These are the things we did not know before now that are happening here at Innoson,” Osanipin expressed, his admiration palpable.

Underscoring the imperative for heightened awareness regarding the local automotive prowess, Osanipin affirmed NADDC’s intent to synergize with the Nigeria Automotive Manufacturers Association to propagate this cause.

His emphasis extended to the necessity of disseminating this invaluable information to governmental entities and fleet operators alike.

Moreover, the Director General fervently accentuated the untapped potential for economic ascendancy nested within Nigeria’s Automotive Industry, vouching for its trajectory towards prosperity provided it garners due attention and incentives.

There are a lot of opportunities in the auto industry, and I stand for made-in-Nigeria vehicles. We need to support and patronize made-in-Nigeria vehicles, and by the time we embrace it, there would be a significant development in the industry,” Osanipin declared, unwavering in his stance.

Echoing this sentiment, Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, the luminary CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, expressed gratitude for NADDC’s timely and resolute support.

Chukwuma divulged plans for a new factory dedicated to the production of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles, strategically targeting mass transit solutions and catering to individual and corporate needs.

I appreciate the Director General’s recognition of our efforts and commitment to supporting local manufacturers. This visit by our new DG is essential for him to get more ideas on what to do. I’m grateful to him for coming,” Chukwuma conveyed earnestly.

This promising collaboration between NADDC and Innoson serves as a harbinger of optimism, a concerted stride towards catapulting Nigeria’s automotive landscape into a domain of innovation and progress. The union symbolizes a resolute commitment to foster the uptake of domestically manufactured vehicles, propelling the nation towards vehicular self-sufficiency and industry preeminence.
