If greenlit, these cabins are slated to welcome guests from March through November, catering to both short, rejuvenating respites and extended sojourns.
Each cabin, measuring an inviting 6.7m by 4.3m, will stand at a graceful height of 3m above ground level, ensuring an intimate and cosy atmosphere for occupants.
This venture represents a concerted effort by the Algar family, who acquired the former Old Lorry Farm Shop in 2017, to diversify and fortify their cherished enterprise.
In their comprehensive planning dossier, the proprietors elucidate,
“It is expected that the proposed development will generate employment which will be at the start part-time employment for cleaning. “Employment would be expected to grow as the site becomes more established.
“The cabins have been designed to allow self-catering comfortable stay of up to two guests. They will provide a living space containing a compact kitchen, a bedroom space with under bed storage, wardrobe, and a shower room.”
Moreover, this venture holds strategic significance, being strategically located in close proximity to the esteemed Betteshanger Country Park and the idyllic village of Shoulden.
Plans are concurrently underway for the transformation of Betteshanger, once a colliery, into a dynamic complex featuring a 120-bed hotel complete with a rejuvenating spa.
This visionary project, though initially met with a setback, has been reimagined and resubmitted by astute developers. Additionally, deliberations on the proposed surf park are ongoing.
The fate of the glamping pods now rests in the hands of the discerning members of the DDC, who are slated to make a decision in due course.
