Bishop Atwell Extends Support to RABI’s Harvest 23 Fundraising Appeal

The invaluable work of the Rural Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) has garnered recognition from the Bishop of Exeter, the Rt Rev Robert Atwell. As the Church of England’s representative in the House of Lords for Rural Affairs, Bishop Atwell has lauded RABI’s significant contribution to the farming community by endorsing their Harvest 23 fundraising initiative.

In a bid to rally support for those in the farming profession, the Bishop of Exeter is championing churches, community groups, and individuals to join forces in raising crucial funds.

Bishop Robert emphasized,

“Harvest is that one time of the year when urbanites and villagers alike turn their attention to farming, offering thanks for our sustenance. Regrettably, for some, their perspective doesn’t extend beyond the supermarket shelf, neglecting to acknowledge the toil of our farmers and agricultural workers. As the farming community is well aware, agriculture is an arduous trade. Loneliness looms as a formidable adversary, and, at times, there are casualties.”

He further extolled RABI’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the farming community, affirming,

RABI provides not only practical assistance but also offers guidance and financial support discreetly. In moments of need or solitude, farmers find solace in the knowledge that RABI extends not only expertise but also the hand of friendship.

Paul Pirie, RABI’s Head of Fundraising, expressed gratitude for Bishop Robert’s endorsement, stating,

We are thrilled that Bishop Robert has lent his support to our Appeal, and we extend our heartfelt thanks for his unyielding dedication to the farming community over his nine-year tenure in this role.

This year, the significance of the fundraising drive is magnified as agricultural yields have been impacted by adverse weather conditions. The funds raised will underpin RABI’s efforts to assist farming individuals grappling with a spectrum of challenges, be they financial, practical, or emotional.

The charity is urging faith-based entities, community organizations, and individuals to take up the mantle of fundraising on their behalf. To facilitate this, they have curated a selection of invaluable resources, including prayers and recommended biblical passages handpicked by Bishop Robert.

This endorsement from Bishop Atwell stands as a powerful testament to the crucial role played by RABI in supporting the farming community. With the Harvest 23 fundraising appeal, RABI aims to provide essential aid to those who dedicate their lives to agriculture, especially during times of adversity. The resonance of this initiative is heightened this year, given the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions on agricultural yields. Through concerted efforts and support from various quarters, RABI endeavours to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who tirelessly contribute to our food supply chain.
