UNDP Engages Top PR Experts to Confront Climate Crisis Head-On

Taking a bold step in the battle against climate change, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Communications Consultancy Organisation (ICCO), the global hub for PR agencies. The aim is to address the pressing challenges in climate communications.

As the foremost agency combating climate change globally, UNDP operates a staggering 6,000 projects in 170 countries. On the other hand, ICCO, a federation of national and international PR membership bodies, boasts over 3000 agency members across 82 countries.

The collaboration between UNDP and ICCO sees the emergence of a special Climate Communications Taskforce (CCT), led by Chris Pratt, a member of the Climate Communication Group of the PRCA (the UK Public Relations and Communications Association), and Boaz Paldi, Chief Creative Officer at UNDP.

The primary objective of the task force is to harness the expertise of leading climate communicators and PR strategists globally. Their mission is to orchestrate impactful campaigns and activations, mobilizing action across key global markets. ICCO plans to introduce new Taskforce members in the coming weeks. This partnership signifies UNDP’s commitment to leveraging the skills of creative PR professionals to deliver impactful messages on climate change globally.

Grzegorz Szczepanski, ICCO President, emphasised the critical role of the industry in addressing climate change, stating, “Climate change is one of the most critical global issues of our time, and we believe it’s an issue for our industry to solve.

This partnership is a significant recognition from UNDP of the central role PR and communications expertise will play in achieving their goals.”

Boaz Paldi, UNDP Chief Creative Officer, acknowledged the integral role of PR in the fight against climate change. He highlighted that the partnership with ICCO would drive global media attention and engagement in UNDP campaigns, delivering messages in local markets in a way that resonates locally. The international strategic plan of ICCO is deemed essential to the success of their collaborative efforts.

This partnership signifies a long-term relationship geared towards the betterment of the planet. The joint efforts of UNDP and ICCO aim to create meaningful change in global perspectives on climate change and foster actionable responses.
