Bryan A. Champion Memorial Scholarship Overview

The Bryan A. Champion Memorial Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in a recognized undergraduate or graduate program in landscape, horticulture, or a related field at a two- or four-year college.

Students enrolled in vocational agriculture programs will also be eligible. Undergraduate applicants must be at least a sophomore in a four-year curriculum or a senior in a two-year curriculum as of the fall semester of the scholarship application year, with an overall grade point average of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale in their major. Graduate applicants from any year are eligible.

Following graduation, applicants who plan to engage in the green industry (including nursery operation, landscape architecture/design/construction/maintenance, interiorscape, horticulture distribution, or retail garden center) will be given priority.

The Horticultural Research Institute (HRI), an AmericanHort foundation, has contributed more than $9.5 million to research projects addressing a wide range of agricultural, environmental, and business concerns relevant to the green industry.

Eligibility Information

This scholarship is open to students who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • State: Ohio.
  • Required GPA: 2.3.
  • Grade Level: College sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students.
  • Academic interests include agriculture, horticulture floriculture, and landscape architecture.
