Applications are currently open for the $100,000 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition. The 2024 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition encourages agrifood entrepreneurs from around Africa to present their new businesses. Judges will be searching for inventive entrepreneurs and co-founders aged 18 to 35 who want to build sustainable, scalable businesses, improve resilience, increase food security, and create jobs in the agri-food industry.
This year’s competition will recognize and celebrate African entrepreneurs whose business solutions address the pressing need for efficient local production of nutritious food, with business models that embrace scale and innovation, while also contributing to the mitigation of climate and other environmental challenges.
This year’s top candidates will have the opportunity to shine at the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize final pitch competition, which will take place during the famous Africa Food Systems Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 2 to 6.
GoGettaz is a cooperation effort aimed at strengthening the ecosystem for young entrepreneurs in the agrifood sector across the continent. Econet, a privately held worldwide conglomerate in telecommunications, media, energy, and technology, and Yara International, a global crop nutrition firm based in Norway, are the founding partners.
Eligibility of GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition
They are searching for:
- Entrepreneurs who are 35 years old or younger on the date of submission to the competition are legally recognized as adults in their country of nationality.
- The entrepreneur owns nationality (with an official ID) from an African Union member country.
- Entrepreneurs who are CEOs /co-founders of the enterprise he/she represents in the competition and have an active part in its operations and management.
- The entrepreneur has no criminal past related to corruption, tax evasion, financial impropriety, crime, or other violations, and will provide a signed certification to that effect if requested.
The Venture Prize Competition
- The agri-food sector can be characterized as enterprises involved in:
- Agrifood Research and Development
- Primary food production (farming).
- Crop Nutrition
- Irrigation
- Mechanization, automation, or robotics, which includes drones
- Crop Protection
- Hydroponics or urban farming?
- Transportation, distribution, storage, or logistics
- Food processing
- Packaging or marketing?
- Food Retail or Service

- Digital or technological solutions/services for the agri-food sector.

- Venture’s headquarters are located in an African Union member country.
- The venture is designed to be financially sustainable, either as a for-profit firm or a non-profit earning some money and trying to be independent of donor support.
- Venture contributes to the development of the agri-food sector by innovating or improving processes.
- Venture is already legally registered in a country that is a member of the African Union, or will have begun the registration of such a legal entity before July 1, 2024.

An expert jury will assess all petitions received between April 8 and June 10, 2024.
The evaluations consider the following criteria:

- The top 24 semi-finalists will be notified by WhatsApp and email in mid-July.
- Semi-finalists will be interviewed and requested for additional information.
- The jury will pick 12 finalists by the end of July 2024. Six male and female finalists will be notified by WhatsApp and email.
- Finalists will be asked to compete onstage at the AFSF Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, during the first week of September 2024.
- All 12 finalists will receive mentorship, programming connections, and other resources to help them continue their entrepreneurial journey.
