Ruth Edwards Facilitates Vital Dialogue Between Farming Minister and Rushcliffe’s Agricultural Community

Rushcliffe MP, Ruth Edwards, orchestrated her fourth Agriculture Forum, featuring special guest, Farming Minister Mark Spencer.

The discussion revolved around pertinent issues in the farming sector, including labor availability and rural crime. Participants noted improved responsiveness from Nottinghamshire Police, addressing security concerns.

Farmers also emphasized the need for fair prices from supermarkets. Minister Spencer affirmed forthcoming regulations to ensure equitable payments for dairy, pig meat, egg, and horticulture sectors.

Recent initiatives to bolster British farming were also highlighted, focusing on online consumer support and expanding export opportunities.

In the realm of technology, the Government plans substantial investment in farming innovation programmes, promoting productivity through updated equipment.

Mark Spencer stated,

“I’m delighted to be here in Rushcliffe this afternoon talking with farmers who work tirelessly year-round to produce high-quality British produce.

“I’m always grateful for the opportunity to discuss how we can best support farmers to be profitable, productive and farm more sustainably, including through our new farming schemes and investment in technology and innovation, and would like to thank Ruth for inviting me here today.”

Ruth expressed gratitude to Mark for engaging with the local farming community, valuing their input on the challenges and prospects within modern farming.

“I am very grateful to Mark for taking the time to come and meet with us. We have fantastic farmers here in Rushcliffe and I was really pleased to give them the opportunity to speak with the minister about the challenges and opportunities in modern farming.”

NFU Nottingham Group Secretary, John Ollerton, commended this platform for addressing crucial rural issues during a pivotal period for UK agriculture.

“We are delighted that Ruth has arranged for the Minister of State, Mark Spencer, to meet with ourselves and NFU members to discuss key rural issues at a tumultuous time for UK farming.

“It is great to know that the concerns and interests of local farmers can be taken further by Mark and Ruth in Westminster and I thank them for their commitment to speaking up for farmers.”

Ruth is committed to regular convening of these meetings. Farmers in Rushcliffe interested in participating can register by emailing [email protected] for inclusion in future invitations.
