For the Midlands area, Origin Fertilizers has added a new member to their nutrition agronomy team.

Tom Wells has been appointed to the team of internal agronomists at the fertiliser company and will be responsible for the East and West Midlands.

Wells was raised on a mixed-family farm close to Brigg in Lincolnshire, where he has an agricultural background.

According to  Fertilizers company, “He quickly developed an understanding and interest of how nutrition directly affects both animals and crops and the importance of getting it correct greatly influences the final product.”

Growing up on a mixed farm, according to Wells, taught him about “the value of an integrated farming system,” the advantages of including cattle in the rotation of crops, and the significance of nutrition in a productive system.

“The building blocks for production come from the right nutrition and understanding how to achieve this is essential,” he stated.

After graduating from Harper Adams with an agricultural degree that included numerous agronomy courses, Wells spent six years working on his family’s farm.

He then began working in the animal nutrition sector, which, in his opinion, helped him have a deeper understanding of healthy eating.

These responsibilities, he claimed, “demonstrated how increasing certain nutrients can have direct improvements to the crops we grow or animals we are rearing.”

According to him, he established the farm’s nutrient plans using soil indices, work records, and industry rules. Because of this practical experience, Tom Wells is qualified and well-placed to help other farmers tailor their fertiliser to crop or animal requirements.
