First-year Applicants

First-year applicants are required to submit the Common Application, which includes a personal statement, supplemental essay, and a section for detailing extracurricular activities. These portions of the application provide an opportunity for applicants to showcase who they are, what they have devoted their time to during high school, and what they will add to the dynamic campus community. Applicants must also submit a School Report form, high school transcript, and one letter of recommendation.

In addition, there may be additional requirements for special programs, such as Architecture, Music, Theatre Arts B.F.A., and Health Professions Mentoring (HPM). If the applicant completed secondary school and/or attended University outside of the United States, they are required to submit a Financial Certification Form. Non-native English speakers are required to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo test scores unless they meet one of the University’s waivers.

For the 2024 application cycle, the University of Miami is test-optional for first-year applicants. Applicants who choose not to submit ACT/SAT test scores will not be at a disadvantage for admission or merit-based scholarships.

Transfer Applicants

Transfer applicants should apply by the April 1 priority deadline for entry in the fall semester or the November 1 priority deadline for entry in the spring semester. Applications and/or supporting documents received after the stated priority deadlines will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

Transfer applicants must submit the Common Application, as well as their college transcripts and a College Report from every U.S. postsecondary institution attended. In addition, there may be additional requirements for special programs, such as Architecture, Music, Theatre Arts B.F.A., and Health Professions Mentoring (HPM).

If the transfer applicant completed secondary school and/or attended University outside of the United States, they are required to submit a Financial Certification Form. Non-native English speakers are required to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo test scores unless they meet one of the University’s waivers.

For the 2024 application cycle, transfer applicants who have completed fewer than 30 postsecondary credits (not including dual enrollment/concurrent enrollment courses) can choose whether to submit ACT/SAT test scores.
